airships and waves

all for tongues and sleepwalkers

- Dear Daniel:

I’m studying drama because the oldest artists in the world were storytellers.
I’m studying drama because while nobody’s heard of me or you,
pretty much everyone on the planet’s heard of Shakespeare.
I’m studying drama because it’s an art form that’s a crazy kaleidoscopic sliver of life-
made of monolouge and dialouge,
melody and dance,
poetry and empathy,
violence and romance-
yeah, I’m studying drama.

I’m studying drama because metaphor fills in the gaps left by science.
You can calculate the weight of the moon
and still not know the meaning of the word moonstuck,
but when you hear

“She walks in beauty, like the night
Of cloudless climes and starry skies
And all that’s best of dark and bright
Meet in her aspect and her eyes”

then you know moonstruck.
